Family:Lebiasinidae

Nannostomus anduzei, known scientifically as Nannostomus anduzei, belongs to the family Lebiasinidae. The fish was named in honor of the Venezuelan biologist and explorer Pablo Anduze, who first provided a detailed description of it. This is not the easiest fish to keep and breed, mainly due to its miniature size. For the same reason, difficulties arise when selecting tank mates.

Frequently asked questions

The essentials: size, tank volume, water parameters and care

How big does Nannostomus anduzei get?

An adult reaches 2 cm in length. Plan the tank around the maximum size: the fish quickly outgrows a cramped setup.

What size aquarium does Nannostomus anduzei need?

The recommended volume is 40 L. A smaller tank speeds up nitrate build-up and raises stress levels.

What water parameters does Nannostomus anduzei need?

Temperature 22–28 °C, pH 5–7, hardness 1–8 dGH. Stability matters more than exact values: sudden swings are harder on the fish than a small deviation from the ideal.

How long does Nannostomus anduzei live?

Around 3 years when kept properly. Lifespan depends directly on tank volume, water quality and a varied diet.

Is Nannostomus anduzei aggressive?

Temperament: peaceful (regular). Keep this in mind when choosing tank mates.

How many Nannostomus anduzei should be kept together?

Recommended setup: large group (10+ individuals). Ignoring this is a common cause of stress and disease.

What does Nannostomus anduzei eat?

Diet type: any (universal). Feed small portions that are finished within a couple of minutes — overfeeding does more harm than underfeeding.

What is the scientific name of Nannostomus anduzei?

The scientific name of the species is Nannostomus anduzei, family Lebiasinidae.
