Care and keeping

Appearance

Blades 10–30 cm long, linear to very narrowly elliptic, with a straight, not wavy, edge; the leaf stalks are often reddish-brown. It resembles var. glabra, whose leaves are elliptic to lanceolate. Height up to 30 cm — relatively tall for the species.

Keeping

Just as easy to keep as var. nana, but less well known. Growth slow, light from dim to bright, CO₂ 5–40 mg/l, temperature 22–26 °C.

Placement

Tie it to a stone or a piece of driftwood, or plant it in the substrate. Suited to a cichlid tank and to the midground.

Trade names

Often sold under the mistaken name 'Anubias afzelii'; the true Anubias afzelii is considerably larger and is itself often sold as 'Anubias congensis'.
