Care and keeping

Appearance

Rounded leaves on long stalks from a tuber, smaller than those of the familiar lilies. Two plants circulate in the hobby under this name, one of them brought from Bolivia and one known by a Brazilian place name.

Keeping

It wants a nutritious substrate and medium to strong light; warm water suits it. As with all lilies in a tank, the leaves that reach the surface shade everything beneath them and are trimmed off if the plant is grown for its underwater leaves.

Placement

The middle or back of a large tank, alone.

Propagation

By daughter tubers formed beside the parent.

Fish and this plant

Matching water does not mean the fish will leave the plant alone.

Cultivars

The same plant with a different look: light, water and care are shared with the species.

Other varieties: Nymphaea gardneriana Santarem, Nymphaea gardneriana Santarem Einzelpflanze
